Summer, warm weather, cold ocean water, and hot sand. Paradise. Going to Lebanon was the best vacation. My picture of almost all of my family had taken place there. Even though I had been a Christian my whole life, I got baptized right before we took our family picture.
Most of my family that was there was dressed up. I got in my favorite pink dress my grandparents had gave me. My youngest sister got in her heels, and so did I. We had matching silver heels what we had just bought days before our baptism. Of course, they were like one and a half inch heels, but we loved them. We went to one of the oldest churches in Lebanon. Right beside the small church was stairs that led down like a basement. It had stone walls with glass windows over it to see inside. The door was locked. We read the sign by it and it was actually a place where Christians had hid to pray. There was a beautiful picture of Mary and little Jesus in her loving arms.
We waited for the Priest to meet us at the church (which is a little weird to me). We walked around the church, looking at all the beautiful tall trees that were all different sizes and shapes. Us kids started climb the trees but of course we got in trouble. Then, we decided to go into a small area that had a picture, again, with Mary and Jesus. Under the picture was a very short table with candles waiting to be lit. We lit the candles and sat them nicely in line.
My mom thought we should take a picture together before the baptism. My friend, Amber, took the picture. We all laughed taking all of the pictures. My cousin, Georgio, was like my brother. He had annoyed me and made me mad but I still love him. He tried to grab my hand for the picture. At the time I was mad at him so I moved my hand quickly away from his. After our “nice” family picture we decided to goof off a little. My uncle, Milad (we call him amo Milad, which means uncle Milad in Arabic.) and my dad put my aunt, Afaf, in the middle of both of them and her brothers both kissed her on the cheek for the picture. That wasn’t the only goofy picture we took, we took a lot of funny pictures. After all our fun we went inside and me and I my sister were baptized for the first time.
